I've put the Ralston Creek Half on my radar..and I want to feel good about 10miles of it. lol I think that sounds realistic for an outdoor winter race! Brrr...
I also put Pizza on my radar for the afternoon after the race. Heck.. maybe even a few beers!!!

SO back to getting faster.

Got to the pool & swam like a brick, I felt heavy & akward.
Oh well 500 done & a soak in the hot tub.

Whoa is KNEE

Ok..
I'm cheesey...yes..

I went to the Karma function last night tried on some killer awesome Saucony's which I may go back and get (like I need another pair of running shoes) Monday.
When I tried them on I jumped on the treadmill and did a 1/4 mile... super easy.. on 5.5 and now today at 830 am my knee is the size of my head.. WHICH IS HUGE!!! *giggle*

Ok.. its funny that my head is huge..not that my knee is huge. I've been over this with this knee.. I've explained "knee.. its time to get better." my knee seems to want to agree to that...but cant seem to commit! So... back to the Physical Therapist I go.. who will tell me.. you need more stretching and strength exercises which I will agree to do and wont do..anyway..vicious cycle vicious cycle.

One Day I Will Learn

Karma Karma Karma- Multisport!!

Great team!

He won! Well he is always a winner to me (2nd place)

My brother ran in the jingle bell run and got 2nd in his age group!

What the what???!!! I was so excited...

A little bummed that I couldnt run with him (eat his dust), but at breakfast race morning, it hit me and I teared up (ok I cried) i knew he was going to get 1st, 2nd or 3rd. I texted my family and friends and told them not to tell him..as he was nervous anyway...

And low and behold!!! 2nd place finisher!! woot woot!

So proud! HE's so gracious and was proud of himself as well... he didnt expect it, and actually didnt feel all that great about his time...

27:33 faster than I can dream to be!

Congratulations to my bro!

Everybody's working for the weekend!!

So...
Yep...
Didnt do much...

I did however set up my Wii Fit Plus. I think I'll work on my speeches for work, school, activism there. Should help me a lot with my balance.

I ate pretty well. I am notcing my clothes fitting a little looser. A lot looser and closer to the correct fit is ideal! LOL

Anyway I have set up a race for my brother and I on the 22nd. Very muchly looking forward to it. SHould be a blast. I hope I'm back in running shape by then.

Tonight I am swimming with Janet the Fish and am so excited about it. It will be great to get back to this core fitness realm!

Patella Atraumatic

Today my knee cap came out of place and slid down to my Tibia for about 2 minutes. It was painful...
I was able to push it back into place, that pain was sharp but bareable.

With little effort I was able to walk around and even participate in Cassie's Maturation Ceremony! Great job Cyndi on the ceremony!!

How it happened:(wish it were athletic...but alas.. it was not)
I was taking photos of Cassie's ceremony and had moved to a lawn chair to take a better photo; I moved my knee to the right and unbent it at the same time and ~pop~ my knee slid out. Lame...but completly true!

**swelling of knee area started**

Barkin' Dog Duathlon May 7th

Saturday, May 7th was a chilly one at 545am and right on up to 820am, which was about 15 minutes into my first 5k of the day!

The Barkin' Dog Duathlon is a 5k run/ 30k bike/5k run this year.

This was my first Athena race (division for women over 150lbs). This is also my first race wearing my Aquaphor tri suit.

My first 5k was: 34:57 (about 11:17 pace)
full of slight hills, and while I ran I kept singing that song "what goes up, must go down" The scenery was great, full the new spring life, not too many bugs at this time in the morning.

My 30k/ 18.64miles bike: 1:21:59 (about 13.6 mph)
My legs felt great at the start of the ride. I thought this would be a good chance for me to catch up with the other Athenas. Boy was I wrong. Those ladies were going a great pace...Later I found out that they were going about 17mph (my goal). The views were great and I found myself lost for moments taking it all in. There were some pretty tough hills on the course, and about a mile to the turn around point was the toughest hill, which means the same hill for the end of the bike portion. It was a burner for sure!!! The bugs were pretty bad, I know I ate a few. speaking of eating, I drank my Isopure on the bike ride. That is about 200 calories. That was much needed. Also I had difficulties with my bike number/flag. I ended up ripping it off. When the bike was over I hobbled into transition noticing that my upper right thigh had fallen asleep.

My second 5k was: 36:48 (about 11:53 pace)
It was hard to get started. Many athletes had already finished and the exit of the Transition area was congested. I set out on the run trying to pass as many people as I could. I was waiting for my leg to wake up!! So I shuffled and walked the first 1.5 miles. The last 1/2 mile was so strong... so frustrating. Proves I need more time in the saddle and working on this transition. I heard the announcer say may name as I crossed the finish line. I saw my sweet Cyndi waiting for me. :)

My finish time: 2:36:04 No winning time, but its mine!

Since Im sponsored by Aquaphor, I handed out samples to all who were interested after the race. Cyndi and I sat and I had a bit of the catered pulled pork and beans. :) They were great!!!

What I learned:
I need to spend more time in the saddle
I need to learn how to wakeup my legs after the bike
150lbs moves faster than 197lbs
Do not run a 1/2 marathon the week before a Du

barking

illinois marathon 13.1

Woke up early to head to the Assembly hall. My friend Liz met me and my brother at his house to travel to the race start.

We showed up at 630 for our 730 race start. It was a bit chilly. CJ showed me where he takes a break at work and his locker. We stored our things there and went out to a chilly race start. CJ noticed racers in garbage bags to keep warm and told me
"you should have told me about that."

CJ and I found his pace group and he joined them in the half marathon.

I started a little ways back in line.

The race course was great. it lead us through campus town and some of the historic parts of Urbana, IL. Many places I grew up going to and had fond memories of.

Urbana was very supportive, neighbors sat outside in the high wind and cheered, the attitude was great. I am very proud of my hometown and the support they provided.

Halfway through the course I saw my dad and sister in law. My dad jogged toward me to hand me my bottle of Isopure and i was off again.

At mile 10 I met up with a new friend her name is Toni, we talked and walked/ran the last few miles together.

My goal was to finish in under 3hrs. I finished in 3:00:58. Better luck next time.

As I ran to the finish I saw my brother on the side waiting for me> I gave him a high 5 and ran it in.

We met up with Staci who had come down to the Memorial Stadium to take pictures and celebrate with us.

CJ finished in 2:17:00 Also this was his 3rd race ever. The two prior races were 5k runs!!! CJ is a rock star/rocket ...his choice.

We received our 1/2 Mary finisher medals
we Received our I-Challenge medals (5k and 1/2 marathon)

Grabbed our after race food and met some famly friends for a beer!

It was a great race, and one I will remember for a long time.

Illinois Marathon 5k Friday night

the illinois marathon Friday night  5k was a blast.  I ran this race with my brother through the University of Illinois Campus town.
My finish time: 34:25
My brothers time: 32:32
We ran slowly the first 2 miles and then CJ couldn't take it anymore, he had to flat out run. He ran the last mile as hard as he could.

We were supposed to take it easy as we were running the 1/2 Mary first thing in the morning.

Being Honest

So... I made it to ONEderland! Hooray, unfortnately I did it while I had a pretty bad flu. lol

So I'm still in ONEderland, but went to Weight Reduction group and got a dose of reality.

The reality of the situation is that I'm now 12lbs from goal. 185lbs!!! I will have to continue maintenance of ONEderland and continue on to my weight loss goals.

I'm going to give myself until November to lose the 12lbs.
1. I have a lot of triathlon, and 1/2 mary training between now and then and my weight will fluxuate becuase of muscle.
2. November is a sort of anniversary month for me
3. This will give me time to relearn and reapply all my good habits.

I've gotten off track the past 4-5 months. I've been eating carbs (bread, corn, potatos especially), and those foods have no place in my HEALTHY life..so I would like to remove them again. I am keeping certain processed carbs in my life though... Cheddar Cheese Rice Cakes, as a reimbursement tool after hard workouts... because fainting sucks!

Moving forward I would like to take pictures of EVERYTHING I eat. This will keep me honest and keep me ON TRACK. I'd also like to take a picture of my weekly Monday Morning weigh in... Sigh... gotta stay honest right? And of course what this blog is really all about.. my training and workouts, events and accomplishments. So... lets do it.

Food!

Bad food choices last night...
I went to Champps for a happy hour with associates from work.

2 slices quesadilla
3 chicken wings
4 nachos

So I made up for it at breakfast.

2 eggwhites and munster cheese... couldnt eat it all..kinda got rubbery when it cooled off.
1/4 cup cottage cheese (great food..not my favorite to taste, but great all around) and 1/2 cup apple sauce
Oh and Sugar free hot chocolate! yum (I dont tolerate sugar well..breaks out my skin)
by 930 I had 32oz of water

For lunch I will have
1 slice Frechetta Pizza Garlic, spinach, and mushrooms
5turkey meatballs

For dinner I will have...
turkey burger soup! yum! or Garbanzo Yummer!

Anyway... I've looked at the value in my food and I"ve looked at the value in what I used to eat. Yikes... its amazing what a few simple changes can do to your waistline and your budget.

a bunch of vs.

Special K with lowfat milk vs. oatmeal with cinnamon sugar

3 turkey sausage links vs. Sausage Egg McMuffin

banana and cottage cheese vs yoplait yogurt (you'll be surprised)

bluberry starbucks scone vs blugberries and greek yogurt (sugar or sugar substitute added)

Just some thoughts.
